NATSIAA web suite
Purpose
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) is Australia's most prestigious Aboriginal art award. The purpose of the website is to provide a visually appealing, easy-to-use online gallery for the 29th NATSIAA awards, features high resolution images with zoom capabilities, audio of artist statements, imbedded video of 3D artwork and a virtual tour of the gallery.
Design
The brief was to create a fresh, innovative design for the 29th annual award, delivered through a diverse range of devices. Thriving off the scope for creative direction, Captovate pitched the bold visual concept of a uniquely designed side navigational menu with red to yellow colour transitions, depicting the distinctive Australian landscape. This design is backed by full screen transitions of the award winning artworks. The internal pages carry this theme throughout, but remain clean and minimalistic in not distracting from the stunning artwork on display.
Special Features
Utilising the latest web technologies, the NATSIAA website is built in responsive web design, meaning the layout of the website adjusts automatically depending on the screen size of the user. This enables users on smaller screens and tablet devises to enjoy the same levels of accessibility and view the online gallery in an optimised format for their device.
Furthermore, Captovate developed a specialised m-site for smartphones as well as iPhone and Android applications featuring additional user functionality of voting capabilities for the People's Choice Award and adding artwork to your favourites page. These applications have full access to the online gallery, audio and video functionality streaming from the website.
Captovate also developed an interactive tour application for use within the art gallery. The concept of the app is to complement the visitor experience within the gallery. The application has been installed onto 12 iPads and creates a value add for viewers in the gallery, featuring category nominations, award winners, audio and seamless video streaming.
Oh yeah, did we mention that Captovate had a timeframe of less than four weeks to complete all of this in?
